'The New Mutants' Is Sticking to Its Theatrical Release Date This Month — COVID-19 Be Damned
The rollout of The New Mutants has been anything but smooth. At this point, the troubled Disney/Fox superhero flick has been repeatedly delayed multiple times in recent years, but while Disney has pulled many of its biggest films from theatrical release, that doesn't seem to be the case for The New Mutants.

Believe it or not, The New Mutants is actually sticking to its most recently announced release date of August 28, Variety reports. Yes, that's in just a few weeks, and as COVID-19 gets even worse across the globe, especially in the U.S.

Still, Disney has opted to stick to that theatrical release date for the Josh Boone-directed film, sending out a lengthy email Monday (August 10) to exhibitors outlining its continued theatrical plans. Disney even told theatres they can start selling tickets starting August 18.

Why Disney has decided to still release The New Mutants in theatres is a bit of a mystery. But it's a surprising move considering the company has delayed multiple films such as Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch and decided to bring Mulan straight to streaming via a premium rental.

That said, there is still a bit of time left for Disney to delay The New Mutants once again.
