Published Feb 27, 2017Toronto garage rock unit Meanwood will release their debut full-length This Layer later this week, but you can stream it in its entirety right now.
The album was recorded with Josh Korody at Candle Studios in Toronto, and it hears the band turning both their "darkest" and "most resilient" moments into 10 new tracks that tackle everything from sexism and sexuality to "mortality, broken hearts and beers with best friends."
Those themes and experiences are accompanied by an amalgamation of musical influences that includes '60s rock, classic country, riot grrrl and soul — resulting in a record that accurately captures the authentic sound they were aiming for.
"The second we stepped into Candle and started working with Josh on the direction and sound of the songs, which were mostly skeletons at the time, we really knew that this record would be the first step in capturing exactly what happens when the lights go down at a Meanwood show," the band tell Exclaim!
For those who have yet to take in a live Meanwood show, be sure to check out their album release gig at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on March 3. First, though, you can get acquainted with This Layer below.
