Published Nov 28, 2018SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg passed away yesterday (November 27), and he has been celebrated for his work as a biology teacher, cartoonist and animator, but many people may not know that he also dabbled in the music world.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Beck revealed that Hillenburg illustrated the artwork for some of his earliest releases, like the "MTV Makes Me Want to Smoke Crack" single.
Beck also revealed that he had been neighbours with Hillenburg and that the photo for the single had been shot out behind Hillenburg's apartment.
"I always remembered him as a genuinely sweet guy," Beck wrote. "I was lucky to get to run into him by chance at the airport a few months ago. Sending my condolences to his family and to all the friends who are missing him today and thinking about old times."
