Tokyo Police Club Spinoff bandcalledmax Announce Debut Album
Over the last couple of years, Tokyo Police Club frontman Dave Monks has played some small shows in Toronto with his sock-hoppin' garage trio bandcalledmax. Now, the retro-minded group have shared a single and announced their debut album.

The album is called Turn It Up, and the title track serves as the lead single. A press release explains that this was the group's first-ever song, featuring bloozy riffs from Monks and peppy punk rhythms courtesy of Nick McKinlay (drums) and Mike Small (bass). There's even some boogie piano in the second half.

Turn It Up's 11 tracks were self-produced by Monks alongside Nathan Vanderweilen (of Bart). Get a taste of bandcalledmax by checking out the lyric video for "Turn It Up" below.

This is the latest in a series of recent Tokyo Police Club side-projects. Monks released the solo album On a Wave last year, while keyboardist Graham Wright put out a record with his band Girlfriend Material called Cool Car.
