Le Cercle

228 Rue Saint-Joseph Est, Quebec City QC

Locals of the touristy Old Quebec part of town insist that Le Cercle is where you should go for a unique night out. Le Cercle is a chic, multi-level bar, restaurant and concert space with a nightclub-meets-wine-bar vibe, and is one of Lonely Planet’s top choices for music venues in Quebec City. Its small front patio lit by twinkle lights, exposed brick walks and an eclectic art collection on its walls are just some features that make the bar a visual feast.

Many nights at Le Cercle feature international DJs projecting elaborate moving images up on a 20-foot screen while they spin for customers, who mingle and scarf down tapas. The bar has also featured many local and touring bands, such as the New Pornographers, Towers and Trees, jazz pianist Ariel Pocock, Lordi, Finnish death metal rockers Omnium Gatherum, a cappella group the Melodrones, Will Driving West, Honheehonhee, Catherine LeBlanc Quartet, Library Voices, the Coathangers, Germaphobes, Shabazz Palaces, Weaves, Plants and Animals, metalcore band Intervals, Duchess Says and rapper Astronautalis. The bar hosts numerous other events, including film, fashion and comic strip festivals, release parties for albums and books, wine tastings and more.

While Le Cercle is praised for its trendy ambience, some people take issue with its long wait times, noisy atmosphere and some overcrowding (most servers speak some English, but with the loud volume of the venue Anglophones should be prepared to muddle through a little). But if you love a unique, trendy space and delicious cocktails, stop by Le Cercle.
